The Tricky Women Animation Festival, in Vienna, Austria, is a delightful, five day event (March 2 to 6, 2016) at the elegant Metro Kino, built in 1840. All of the films are by women directors and the event includes an international competition, curated programs (favorites: "Frightening!" and "Sexe, Femme et Animation"), talks, workshops and parties. Festival directors Waltraud Grausgruber and Birgitt Wagner make everyone feel incredibly welcome and do a brilliant job organizing the festival.
Bottle Neck had an Austrian premiere in my Tricky Women retrospective. Seth Norman did the brilliant sound design and Brian Kinkley did the wonderful title design and compositing. It's the final film in the Eye Liner Trilogy with Eye Liner (2011, see below) and Split Ends (2013).
Missed Aches (3'53") A witty commentary on ignorance and our over-reliance on spell check, written and narrated by slam poet Taylor Mali. Sound and music by Normand Roger, Pierre Yves Drapeau and Denis Chartrand.
Eye Liner (3'53") Luminescent abstract animation with a sound by Seth Norman.
